Hey besties! So, I got into juicing recently, and let me tell you—I’m hooked! Who knew it could be so simple, beneficial, and downright fun?
From smoothies to ice cream, my slow juicer does it all, and the best part? No added junk! Plus, no more last-minute grocery runs for juice.
As you probably know, I embrace Montessori parenting so I love getting my kids involved in the kitchen. It’s a great way to bond, and a fun learning experience for kids. Miles (my 4.5 year old) has always loved helping me cook; juicing has become his new fav activity!
So, guess what we’re making first? Yep, homemade almond milk, right in the slow juicer. Can’t wait to spill the beans (or should I say almonds?) on this gem! 🌟🥛
Benefits of Almond Milk
First things first, let’s chat about why almond milk is the go-to choice for many scrunchy moms. Not only is almond milk naturally lactose-free, making it a great option for those with dairy sensitivities, but it’s also packed with essential nutrients like calcium, vitamin E, and antioxidants. Plus, it’s lower in calories and sugar compared to cow’s milk, making it a smart choice for those looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Why Scrunchy Moms Love Juicers
Now, let’s talk about our kitchen bestie – the slow juicer. Unlike traditional juicers, slow juicers operate at a lower speed, which helps preserve the nutrients and enzymes in our ingredients. This means we can extract every last drop of goodness from our almonds, resulting in a richer, creamier almond milk that’s bursting with flavor.
Not only that, but slow juicers are incredibly versatile. From juicing fruits and vegetables to making nut butters and sorbets, there’s no limit to the delicious creations you can whip up. And as scrunchy moms, we love anything that allows us to get creative in the kitchen while keeping things wholesome and nutritious.
If you’re new to the juicing community and not sure which one to get, I have the Hurom H310 & H400 Easy Clean Slow Juicers and love them both. As a beginner, they’ve been really easy to navigate—I use the H310 the most though because it’s smaller, so it fits on my tiny counters.
Now, Let’s Make Some Almond Milk
Alright, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty – the almond milk recipe! Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to creating your own homemade almond milk using your slow juicer, you can also watch my IG Reel to see a visual:
- Soak 1 2/3 cups of salted almonds in 3 1/3 cups of water in a small bowl and let sit for 6+ hours. This helps soften the almonds and makes them easier to blend.
- Note: this makes about 32oz, but if you want to make more use a 1:2 ratio for almonds:water. (Example: if you use 4 cups of almonds, use 8 cups of water)
- After soaking, pour the almonds and water into your slow juicer.
- Puree the almonds until smooth, allowing the slow juicer to work its magic.
- Once fully blended, open the juice cap to release the creamy almond milk, and voila – you’re done!
It’s as easy as that! In just a few simple steps, you’ll have a fresh batch of homemade almond milk that’s perfect for pouring over cereal, blending into smoothies, or enjoying on its own.
Get Your Kids Involved
One of the best parts of making almond milk with your slow juicer is getting your kids involved in the process. Not only is it a fun and educational activity, but it also teaches them the value of homemade, nutritious food. So, grab your little chefs and let them help measure ingredients, press buttons on the juicer, and taste-test the final product.
